Joann Clarke, President (New Bedford, MA) A teacher and social worker, JoAnn is a dedicated youth advocate. She is passionate about human potential and is deeply committed to the cause of youth development. A long-time New Bedford resident, she is proud of the community partnerships she has formed over the years. Her ability to identify compelling needs along with a dogged determination to find resources to meet them, is a significant asset to TFK New Bedford. She was a founder of the highly successful Community Boating Center in New Bedford, which was established to provide new oppportunities and enriching experiences for at-risk kids. JoAnn is also a member of the Board of Directors of PACE, serves on the Headstart Policy Council, and has completed Graduate studies in Non-Profit management. With her dedication, commitment, and experience TFK New Bedford is on very solid ground. Daniel Tschaen, Vice President (New Bedford, MA) As a teacher at an alternative high school, Dan knows first-hand some of the problems faced by today’s youth. His goal is to help them get the skills they need to be able to effectively solve or circumvent these problems. He, along with a committed group of colleagues, has been very successful at achieving this goal in the past. He is sure that TFK New Bedford will provide the opportunity to continue this mission. He believes that it is very important that the youth (and everybody else) have a positive and hopeful view of life, where people are kind, cooperative, and helpful. TFK New Bedford will try to develop this positive sense of life by providing, simple, innocent, fun and adventure, and by providing kind, intelligent, energetic and thoughtful role models. He is certain that TFK New Bedford will have an extremely positive impact on the kids of this area. Amy F. Trow, Treasurer (Mattapoisett, MA) Having served as a leader on the development team of a large social service agency, Amy brings valuable experience to the Board of TFK New Bedford. Her commitment to children and families is evident in the boundless energy and enthusiasm she brings to her role as a TFK Director. Amy feels that her most rewarding volunteer work to date has been family support groups for children affected by domestic violence. An avid skier, walker and yoga practitioner, she combines her commitment to physical fitness with her love of the City and the great outdoors. She therefore feels that TFK New Bedford is the perfect place to continue her work to improve the lives of those less fortunate. Nancy Santoro, Secretary (Burlington, MA) Nancy is a dedicated teacher and youth advocate. She has played a crucial role in the founding of our new organization, and will continue to be indispensable as an instructor and Director. She is compassionate, insightful, loves the outdoors, and realizes the importance sharing of these qualities with others, especially the young. She also has the uncanny ability to combine high expectations for kids with an ardent belief in the importance of just having fun. This reestablishes the idea that learning is fun. She draws on her extensive and varied background to always keep things interesting. A certified life guard, she also has an extensive engineering background, and completed a Mountain Cold Weather Rescue course while in the U.S. Army. Nancy is committed to inspiring our youth to reach their full potential by instilling responsibility, cooperation, self-sufficiency, kindness, mutual respect, and hope. She is thus is in the right place…., at TFK New Bedford Michael S. Robertson, Director (Falmouth, MA) With his many years of experience in business and his interest in community development, Mike brings a unique combination of skills to the TFK New Bedford Board of Directors. He has served as Trustee of many nonprofit organizations including The National Easter Seal Society and Barnstable County Hospital. Mike has also served as Executive Director of Community Village Inc. in Milwaukee, WI., carrying out his commitment to urban revitalization. He is also a lifelong sailor and his excellent navigation skills always keep him on course. With his focus on outreach and his relentless optimism, he is a continual source of inspiration to his fellow Trustees. Ryan Costello, Director (Chevy Chase, MD) As the youngest Board member, Ryan brings volumes of youthful energy to TFK New Bedford. He is a compassionate, intelligent, resourceful and fun-loving youth advocate as demonstrated by his tenure as a Sailing Instructor at the Community Boating Center, whose primary focus was to offer disadvantaged kids the opportunity to learn to sail, free of charge. He clearly understands the importance of such programs to the lives of kids, and is uniquely qualified to actually make these programs be of profound significance. After graduating from Georgetown University, Ryan started his own very successful computer software business, so he is also our technical expert. We all look to Ryan for new, interesting, and effective ways to actualize our goals. He is a great role model for our TFK riders. |
